About our speaker: Bill left a career in the energy industry that included posts as well-site geologist, field engineer, and explorationist in Wyoming, Angola, and Kenya, to earn a M.S. in geology as a means of better reconciling biblical history with the rock record.  Adept in the field and lab, Bill has assisted in Grand Canyon field investigations of Mississippian and Cambrian strata and performed mineral separations on Precambrian mafic rocks for the purpose of isochron dating.  He has also served as field trip director, public speaker, and has authored dozens of contributions for creationist literature.  His current research interest is in sand injectites and their connection to large-scale movements of fluidized sand during the Flood. 

July 18, 2009 - Biologist Chris Osborne, Ph.D., presented a lecture entitled, "The fossil record—its support for the Genesis flood and its refutation of universal common descent".

About our speaker:  Chris first earned an Associates of Science degree in Biology from Rio Hondo College, followed by a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from California State University, Fullerton, then a
Masters of Science degree in biology from the Institute for Creation Research,  and finally a Ph.D. in biology from Loma Linda University. Chris has taught at a variety of Christian and secular schools, colleges,
and universities, and has participated in several research projects, including genetics research with the GENE team and Dr. John Sanford.

While taking a biology class in the early 70's from a strong proponent of Darwinism at Cal State, Fullerton, Chris and three other Christian students found their faith under deliberate attack. They decided to get
together after hours to study those evolutionary claims that seemed most threatening.  In each case, they found evolutionary claims contained unsupported assumptions and flawed logic.  By turning to the original scientific journal
papers from which the claims had sprung, Chris and his study group were able to identify and expose the underlying errors.

Excited about their discoveries, Chris and his study group taught lessons on Creation versus Evolution to various audiences, including a series of lectures they delivered as part of the Tuesday Night School of the Bible at
Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa in the early 1970's.  A lasting influence of their lessons served, in part, as inspiration for starting the current Creation Science Fellowship of Calvary Chapel. 

On a more personal note:  Before coming to Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa to give his presentation, Dr. Chris Osborne and his family drove to Whittier to celebrate his father's birthday.  Upon arrival, they learned that his father had just died only moments before, suddenly and without warning. Later that afternoon, Chris delivered his message to our Creation Science Fellowship.

May 16, 2009 - Dr. Paul Giem presented a lecture entitled, "Missed Megafloods,"

and Mark Wanamaker presented a lecture entitled, "Erosion, Not by the Drop But by the Bucket!"

Dr. Giem reviewed the current theory of the Washington Scablands having been formed by a catastrophic flood resulting from the breeching of an ice dam.  He traced the history of
the scientific community's slow acceptance of the theory.  Then, he showed photographs of similar features in other locations, arguing that they too must have been formed by
catastrophic means. Mark Wanamaker followed up with stunning photographs of yet other locations, pointing out features that likewise call for the post Ice Age breeched dam floods
model as the explanation for their cause.

May 2, 2009 - Ariel A. Roth, Ph.D., drawing from many lines of evidence, answered the question,

This lecture gave multiple lines of powerful scientific evidence that there was indeed a global Flood.

April 18, 2009 - Geophysicist and Planetary Physicist, and president of Logos Research Associates, John Baumgardner, Ph.D. gave a lecture entitled, 

"Rotational Instability of the Earth During the Flood:
The Resulting Movement of Ocean Water Over the Continents"

What sort of mechanism could possibly transport and deposit over a mile of fossil-bearing sediments, on average, over the continents during the year of the Genesis Flood? Obviously, it had to involve a great amount of water moving at significant speed. Dr. Baumgardner described a mechanism in which the solid earth, spinning as it does on its axis, might have made several gradual flips like a top due to changes in its internal mass distribution during the Flood. He showed an animation from a computer simulation of the response of the ocean water to such movement of the solid earth. As the continental areas move about, the ocean water surges over them in complex patterns of flow that are influenced strongly by the Coriolis force caused by the earth's spin. The resulting water flow appeared readily able to account for the amount of erosion, sediment transport, and deposition observed in the fossil-bearing portion of the continental sediment record.

April 4, 2009 - Creation Science Fellowship held a 6-hour mini-conference to explore the question of whether it is only Creation Science and Intelligent Design researchers who suffer ostracism and censorship at the hands of science/government/media gatekeepers? - or are other areas of scientific investigation also repressed? If so, WHO is doing the repressing?

In our search, we watched three current Internet videos: Heavy Watergate: The War against Cold Fusion; The Energy Non-crisis; and The Obama Deception. Collectively, these videos stood as testimony to a behind-the-scenes elite who press for global governance. Scientific data that threaten carefully laid plans are swept out of the way, along with the careers of dissident researchers.

Pastor Doug Hamp closed the meeting, comparing video revelations of a globalist elite with biblical prophesy, offering hope for all who have "read the end of the Book", and placed their trust accordingly.

March 21, 2009 - Creation Science Fellowship of Calvary Chapel viewed and discussed the Answers in Genesis DVD "Rock Strata, Fossils, and The Flood," (36 minutes) featuring geologist Andrew Snelling, Ph.D. This DVD offers and excellent overview of evidences for a Global Flood as described in the Book of Genesis.



This was followed by followed by three current YouTube videos (about 22 minutes total run time) that document the formation of shale-like deposits from swiftly flowing muddy water. 

Why is this subject important? Approximately 70% of all sedimentary rock is fine-grained shale or mudstone. For 200 years conventional wisdom has argued that clay-sized particles cannot settle out of suspension unless the suspending water is either still, or else moving only very slowly. Consequently, fine grain deposits thousands of feet thick are regarded as having accumulated over many millions of years from still water.

Is the Bible a reliable source of truth? Bible-believing Flood geologists have long argued that most of the world's sedimentary layers were deposited during the one year episode of global flooding described in the book of Genesis. But, if so, what about fine-grained sedimentary rock layers that (according to conventional wisdom) took millions of years to deposit?

Juergen Schieber's videos of his group's flume studies at Indiana University document the flocculation (sticking together) of fine particles into larger clumps, which in turn congeal with others and settle out of suspension into migrating ripples under swiftly flowing water. Migrating ripples merge, forming shale-like beds of sediment. As Schieber concludes,


"The implications for the interpretation of the depositional history of mudstone successions are obvious."

March 7, 2009 - Geologist Bill Hoesch, M.S., gave a lecture entitled, "Injectites: Squishy Sand and a Young Earth." Bill cited numerous places in the earth where huge volumes of liquefied sand have squirted up from deep deposits and solidified, forming sandstone dikes and pipes. Bill compared explanations from Uniformitarian versus catastrophic perspectives, and invited the audience to draw its own conclusions.
About our Speaker:

After two years as an Exploration Geologist in Kenya , Angola , and the Congo , followed by a year and a half as a Soils Geologist in San Diego , Bill traveled to the People's Republic of China where he taught English and Geology. Later, he taught Geology and Apologetics in three private colleges in California .

Bill was on staff with the Institute for Creation Research from 1999 to 2008 as a Geology Research Assistant. His many assignments included assisting in the mapping Steve Austin's nautiloid mass kill bed in the Grand Canyon, directing educational field tours, editing educational field guides, teaching, and authoring dozens of scientific articles and papers.

Following Ariel Roth's presentation, geologist Steve Austin gave a brief report of his recent expedition to southern Argentina in search of an observation point from which, 125 years ago, Charles Darwin speculated on the processes that had formed the Santa Cruz River Valley. Darwin had noted the weakness of the river's flow to move even small particles, but imagined that over untold eons of time it had carved the river valley from solid basalt, leaving 300 ft. cliffs.

Following surveyor notes referenced in Darwin's diary, Steve Austin returned to the site, and observed what Darwin had observed, but through the eyes of a trained geologist, and captured the scenery and his own observations on an 11-minute DVD called, "Where Darwin Went Wrong."

What Darwin missed were boulder bars - 200 feet tall and miles long piles of river-tumbled boulders (rocks greater than 10 inches in diameter), plus cobbles (2.5 - 10.1-inch) and boulders strewn over the tops of 300 foot basalt cliffs.  These could only have been deposited, and the valley could only have been carved, by catastrophic floods.  Up river, where Darwin never ventured, glaciers block a lake which periodically breeches the ice dam, and releases violent floods into the river valley.  These pose just a small scale snapshot of what must have been an enormous breeched dam event, comparable to those which formed the Washington Scablands and the Grand Canyon at the end of the Ice Age.

A point to be considered is this: Following the lead of Charles Lyell, who's book "Principles of Geology" Darwin was reading at the time, Darwin convinced himself that slow and gradual processes could accomplish anything given sufficient time. What Darwin failed to grasp at the Santa Cruz River Valley is that slow and gradual processes can never roll boulders and cobbles up-hill to form boulder bars, or to deposit boulders and cobbles on top of 300 foot basalt cliffs.  Some processes simply require enormous releases of hydrological power, unimaginable quantities of water moving at "freeway speed" velocities. The general term is "catastrophe".

January 3, 2009, Dr. Dennis Swift lectured and displayed evidence that pre-Columbian Indians interacted with living dinosaurs. Among the artifacts he displayed were thousand year-old fabrics decorated with dinosaur motifs, recovered from the bodies of pre-Columbian mummies; the only remaining accoutrements, (pottery canteen decorated with dinosaurs, shoulder bag decorated with dinosaurs, broad fabric band decorated with dinosaurs, and a knot-coded message), anywhere in the world, of an Inca relay runner; and an actual Ica stone engraved with the image of a man riding on the back of a dinosaur.

Joined The Master's College 1998. Dr. Anderson’s expertise is in the area of biochemistry and molecular biology. He has taught Biochemistry and helped to direct research projects of graduate and medical students at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX. Dr. Anderson was a post-doctoral researcher in the Molecular Genetics Division of the Department of Ophthalmology at the Houston Neurosensory Center.

Dr. Anderson was a member of both the undergraduate and graduate faculty at Lamar University, Beaumont, TX. There he taught and directed the research activities of undergraduates and Masters of Science degree candidates in Biology.

Dr. Anderson’s research interests include structure-function studies of DNA polymerizing enzymes and the synthesis and expression of synthetic human genes in bacterial hosts. He has authored or co-authored several publications in major, peer-reviewed journals. He is a member of the American Chemical Society and Sigma Xi Research Society.

October 18, 2008  Pastor Doug Hamp shared his travel adventures and photographs of engraved stones in the collection of the late Dr. Cabrera of Ica, Peru. Many of these stones depict dinosaurs fighting with, or being ridden by men.  Ica stone engravings of dinosaurs often display details only recently confirmed by paleontologists based on dinosaur skin impressions and fossilized dorsal fringes.

Douglas Hamp, author of Discovering the Language of Jesus, earned his MA in the Hebrew Bible and the Ancient Near East from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel.  During his three years in Israel, he studied both modern and biblical Hebrew, biblical Aramaic, Koine Greek and other ancient languages as well as ancient texts and the archeology of the Bible.  He is currently an assistant pastor at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, where he teaches at the School of Ministry and Graduate School.

October 4, 2008, Don Stewart, Bible Explorer, gave a lecture entitled, Does The Scripture Conflict With Science?

Don Stewart is a graduate of Biola University and Talbot Theological Seminary (with  highest honors). He is also a best-selling and award-winning author having authored, or co-authored, over forty books. This includes the best-selling Answers to Tough Questions, with Josh McDowell as well as the award-winning book Family Handbook of Christian Knowledge: The Bible. September 20, 2008, Edward Boudreaux, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Chemistry at the University of New Orleans, spoke on the topic,  "Origin of Chemical Elements from water-Chronometer for a Young Earth".

Genesis 1:6 -8 says, 

And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which [were] under the firmament from the waters which [were] above the firmament: and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

Plasma is the fourth state of matter. The four states are Solid, Liquid, Gas, and Plasma. Thus, the four states of water are ice, liquid water, steam (or water vapor), and WATER PLASMA - a high temperature ionized gas of hydrogen and oxygen nuclei, in the ratio of two hydrogen for every oxygen, interspersed among free electrons. It is from this that Dr. Boudreaux hypothesizes the rapid synthesis of all the other elementals.

September 6, 2008, professional archeologist and ordained minister, Willie E. Dye, Ph.D.,Th.D., D.M., D.D.,  President of New Covenant Institute of Biblical Archaeology, President of Pacific National University and Theological Institute, Co-Director of the Biblical and American Archaeological Society, gave a lecture entitled, "Devine Design."  

Dr. Dye brought a number displays, including an Icca Burial Stone which depicts fighting dinosaurs, a cast of a cave bear skull, and the cast of a giant's femur sculpted by Joe Taylor of Mt. Blanco Museum in Crosbyton, Texas. 

Joe Taylor sculpted the femur after receiving a copy of a 1996 article written by a man who had been a water works engineer in Eastern Turkey between 1938 and 1968. Apparently during that time, the water works engineer had heard of human leg bones measuring up to 120 centimeters in length, unearthed at construction sites. 

Based on this long -after-the-fact report, Joe Taylor sculpted a human femur 120 centimeters long, using a femur of the much smaller "Malachite Man" as his model.  In terms of the Rules of Evidence, the casting on display at our meting was far removed from any actual find that may have occurred in South-eastern Turkey 40-70 years ago.  Never-the-less, the impression is powerful, and the casting helps put in approximate perspective* the ponderous size of legendary twelve-foot giants.  

* Actually, if two objects differ uniformly in linear dimensions by a scale of X, they will differ in area by a factor of X², and they will differ in volume (and weight) by a factor of X³. If a six-foot, 200lb.  man and a twelve-foot giant differed uniformly by the factor of 2, the giant would require four times as much cloth to dress himself, and would weigh as much as eight 6-ft. men - 1,600 lbs !  The ratio of weight to cross-sectional area of his bones might very well crush his legs!  However, growing bones respond to stress, and a boy growing into a giant would probably grow much thicker bones in order to support his non-linear increase in weight.

August 2, 2008, Joseph Francis, Ph.D., will present a lecture entitled, "Cholera and the Origin of Disease." (<Click to watch).

Joseph Francis received a B.S. in microbiology from Michigan State, and his Ph.D. in biology from Wayne State University in Detroit. He did post-doctoral work in cellular immunology at the University of Michigan. He taught for 10 years at Cedarville University, and has now taught at The Master's College for six years.

Genesis 1:31 says, "And God saw everything that he had made, and behold , it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day."  With this verse in mind, Dr. Francis discussed the problem of natural evil - a stumbling block to many people's faith.

Of an estimated 10 million species of bacteria in the world today, only about 5,000 have been scientifically cataloged.  Of those about 400, or 8%, cause disease.  When all 10 million species have been cataloged, how many are likely to be disease-causing?  Probably, not many more than those already known, perhaps only a fraction of one percent of the whole.  This leads one to ask, how many disease-causing bacteria were part of the original creation?  Dr. Francis' estimate: Zero!

So then, where did disease-causing bacteria come from if they were not initially created to be disease-carrying?  Dr. Francis offered two sources: A) By genetic changes in bacteria that were initially harmless; and, B) by translocation of bacteria from the environment they were designed to inhabit into the environment of higher mammals, including Man.  The disease known as Cholera is a case in point.  (To learn more, watch the video by clicking here.)

June 7, 2008, Calvary Chapel Pastor and soon-to-be missionary to Japan, Dan Bolinger, shared “Tragedies and Triumphs" (<Click to watch) that befell his family when a rare heart disease took the life of his second son, Caleb, and then almost took the life of his four-year-old daughter, Rachel. Following a heart transplant which involved seventeen days of medially-induced coma, Rachel came back with memories of Heaven, an uncanny knowledge of people she met there, and with a personal mission from Jesus to tell others, especially her unbelieving Grandfather. May 3, 2008, Dr. John Morris, President of the Institute for Creation Research brought us an awe-inspiring lecture entitled, 

"In the Ages to Come What will we do in eternity?" (<Click to watch).

John Morris earned his Ph.D. in Geological Engineering from Oklahoma University where he remained on faculty for several years. He left to join the Institute for Creation Research, founded by his father, Dr. Henry Morris, in 1984. John became President of ICR in 1995. Dr. John Morris is also a veteran of 13 expeditions to Mt. Ararat in search of Noah's Ark. On one of those expeditions he became part of an elite group of people on Planet Earth who have been struck by lightening and lived to tell about it!

April 19, 2008, "Micro" Mark Armitage, president of the Electron Microscopy Society of Southern California, returned with a lecture entitled, 

"Electron Microscopy of Some Unusual Tiny Plants". 

The lecture highlighted stunningly complex features of mosses, lichens, and diatoms. (Mark also threw in some of his own electron microscopic discoveries of fire-fly structures, even though fire-flies don't qualify as "tiny plants".)

Mark Armitage studied botany and plant pathology at the University of Florida. He earned his Master's degree in biology with special emphasis in parasitology at the ICR Graduate School. He recently graduated from the Ed.S. program at Liberty University and is a doctoral candidate. Mr. Armitage has published over 35 papers in peer-reviewed journals such as Microscopy Today, Microscopy and Microanalysis, Parasitology Research and the Southern California Academy of Sciences Bulletin. He is a lifetime member of the Creation Research Society (where he serves on the Board of Directors), is a member of the Microscopy Society of America and a member of the American Society of Parasitologists.  Mark maintains an electron microscopy lab at the CRS research station in Arizona.

April 5, 2008, Geologist Steve Austin, PhD., of ICR gave a lecture entitled, "The Search for Sodom and Gomorrah." 

Dr. Austin gave a history of the identification of the five Cities of the Plain based largely on the discovery of a mosaic floor map in the ruins of an ancient church of "Saint Lot" at a hillside cave in Madaba, Jordan. Nearby es-Safi is believed to be Zoar, the "little" city that Lot fled to before hiding in the cave. Sodom is identified with burned ruins at Bab edh-Dhra, Gomorrah with Numeira, Adma with Feifa, and Zeboiim with Khanazir. The locations follow a pattern of ravines or wadi along the south-eastern shore of the Dead Sea. Characteristically, each city overlooked the end of its respective wadi, and was surrounded by a wall, enclosing a tower at one end, near a spring or well. A major geological fault runs under the region. Sodom and Gomorrah were built virtually on top of the fault. Seismic records suggest a shallow hotspot of molten magma may underlie the region, driving oil seepage and natural gas near the surface.

The bottom of the well at ancient Sodom is now on the order of 150 meters above the water table - suggestive of tremendous uplift on one side of the fault. A huge vertical up-thrust could have flattened the walls and towers, potentially accompanied by piezoelectric lightening and massive geysers of crude oil and natural gas. Excavations of the charnel house outside of Sodom suggest the roof was set ablaze by burning materials that fell on it. The burn layer encompasses areas well outside the cities.

Steve Austin has the B.S. from the University of Washington, M.S. from San Jose State University and Ph.D. from the Pennsylvania State University, all in geology. His professional memberships include the Geological Society of America, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the Society for Sedimentary Geology, the International Association of Sedimentologists. He has had professional, peer-reviewed projects at Mt. St. Helens and within the Grand Canyon. Current research is being conducted on mass kill of nautiloids within the Redwall limestone of the Grand Canyon, radioisotopes of Grand Canyon rocks, and earthquake destruction of archaeological sites in the Kingdom of Jordan. In 1999, Dr. Austin published research in the prestigious, peer-reviewed journal International Geology Review.

March 1, 2008, John C. Sanford, Ph.D., of Cornell University returned to speak on "A New Way of Looking at DNA."across campus

While waiting for people just dismissed from Pastor Brian Broderson's service at Calvary Chapel to make their way across campus to the LOGOS Building, Dr. Sanford recapped his findings on the inadequacies of natural selection to protect any genome from mutational load. Most mutations, though deleterious, have effects which are too small to be selectable by nature for elimination. Consequently, they accumulate at an alarming rate. The bottom line is that all genomes are headed for extinction. And the dogma of progressive evolution by natural selection is an outmoded pipe dream!

This was the best attended meeting in our five year history. When the seats were filled, we borrowed more chairs from a storage room. People without seats stood along the walls, and in the foyer, and outside, unable to get in.

Dr. Sanford's lecture, "A New Way of Looking at DNA," spot-lighted  research with a computer science graduate student named Josiah Simpson.  Because scientific papers are pending which describe this work, Dr. Sanford's lecture was not streamed to the Internet. It was, however, recorded, and perhaps at a later date we may be allowed to make the lecture available on line.

Dr. John C. Sanford is a world renown geneticist, perhaps best know as the primary inventor of the "gene gun." He has authored 80 scientific papers, has 30 patents to his credit, and is the author of the ground-breaking book "Genetic Entropy & the Mystery of the Genome", which falsifies the pretense of evolutionary theory that mutations plus natural selection can account for complexity in living organisms. John Sanford shows that natural selection cannot maintain genomes, much less improve them!

February 16, 2008, John Baumgardner, Ph.D., with the Institute for Creation Research, returned with a lecture entitled, "Exposing a Huge Population Genetics Trade Secret: Natural Selection Doesn’t Work as Advertised".

ABSTRACT:   Leading scientists in the field of population genetics have known for decades that natural selection has a sensitivity threshold.  Below this threshold, natural selection is blind to detecting the presence or absence of an individual mutation.  The overwhelming majority of all mutations affect fitness at levels that lie below this threshold.  Natural selection is therefore helpless to stop the steady accumulation of harmful mutations and the consequent damage to a population’s genetic makeup.  Beneficial mutations are so rare that they are utterly overwhelmed by the accumulating harmful ones.  In the 1990’s James Crow, a leading population geneticist published what he claimed was a solution to this grave difficulty for evolutionary theory.  The paper was so highly mathematical, however, that most biologists and even many population geneticists—unable to understand it or evaluate its logic in a critical manner—simply accepted its conclusions and assumed the difficulty had been resolved.  But the assumptions underlying this paper, namely, that all mutations have equal effect on fitness and that selection acts perfectly, with random events playing no role, are highly artificial.  They are not even remotely satisfied in the real world.  A recently developed computer program, Mendel’s Accountant, is able to model the mutation and selection process in great detail and with a high degree of realism by tracking millions of individual mutations over large numbers of generations.  This program shows conclusively, with no room for skepticism, that the solution offered by Crow does not work when any semblance of biological realism is included. The limitations of natural selection are now so clear and so obvious that there is no reason to allow the primary mechanism invoked to explain evolution to go unchallenged any longer.

John Baumgardner is a world renown scientist. He received  a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering at Texas Tech University in 1968, an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University in 1970, an M.S. degree in Geophysics and Space Physics at UCLA in 1981, and a Ph.D. in Geophysics and Space Physics at UCLA in 1983. Now a full time scientist with the Institute for Creation Research, Dr. Baumgardner recently retired from the Fluid Dynamics Group of the Theoretical Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, where he had worked since 1984. Famous for his development of the TERRA program, a 3-D spherical finite element model of the earth's mantle, Dr. Baumgardner worked extensively in adapting aspects of the TERRA code to a global weather forecast program called GME, currently used by more than twenty nations. A leader in computer modeling of complex systems, Dr. Baumgardner has worked most recently with Cornell University professor John Sanford in modeling population genetics under the influence of random mutations and natural selection.  The result is a powerful population genetics simulator called "Mendel's Accountant".

February 2, 2008, Calvary Chapel High School science teacher Dan Hayes  spoke on the topic, "Fossils and the Flood."  

About Dan Hayes: Dan earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering 1986 from CSULB. He worked in engineering industry for 16 years. He changed his career to teaching at Calvary Chapel Junior High and High School in 2002, teaching physics (high school) and earth science (junior high). He taught his earth science class with an emphasis in creation science. He taught earth science for 5 years in junior high at Calvary, then changed to the high school to teach chemistry this year, and continues to teach high school physics. He is now working on his Master’s Degree in Education at Hope International University.

January 19, 2008, Laurence Tisdall, President of Creation Science Association of Quebec, gave a fascinating presentation entitled, "The Book of Genesis and the Chinese Peoples." Laurence showed how the ancient Chinese characters found on oracle bones were constructed of smaller pictograms, each contributing an elemental concept to the composite meaning of the word. In numerous examples, the association of concepts woven together into Chinese characters displays a familiarity with stories recorded by Moses in the Book of Genesis, some 800 years later!

Likewise, ancient Chinese literature recounts the Flood, survived by Nuwa (Noah and his wife?), Fuxi (Japheth?),  Shennong (Shem?). Mr. Tisdall points out that Ham is not mentioned in Chinese literature, possibly because of the curse he and his son Canaan received at from Noah, according to Genesis, for an impropriety on their part.

Author and Lecturer, Pastor Doug Hamp gave an overview of his new book, The First Six Days.  Among other subjects, The First Six Days challenges the claim by certain 'Old Earth Creationists' that the early church believed the Earth was ancient - much older than a straight forward reading of Genesis would suggest. August 18, 2007  Physical Chemist, Author, and lecturer Dr. Jonathan Sarfati gave a lecture entitled, "Designed for Life" rapidly summarizing a host of evidence that the biblical account of Creation is true, and pointing listeners to resources for further information. 

Sunday afternoon, August 19, for the benefit of anyone inclined to believe Creation Scientists must be mentally inferior specimens of the human race, Dr. Sarfati demonstrated his extraordinary powers of memory, strategy, and concentration by putting on a blindfold and playing six opponents simultaneously at chess. Some players were from Calvary Chapel, others from the Chess Center in Costa Mesa and the Chess Palace in Garden Grove.

 With his biological clocks still on Australian time and suffering the stresses of missed sleep due to extreme jet lag, Dr. Sarfati did not feel that he was on top of his game. He did not feel that he had the mental acuity to play 12 challengers simultaneously as he sometimes does. Nevertheless, while playing six opponents, he checkmated three and two resigned. His toughest opponent was a man named Frank who attends Calvary Chapel and frequents both the Chess Center and the Chess Palace. In the interest of time (Dr. Sarfati, his wife, and their host - Dr. Bernard Brandstater - had dinner plans in Redlands, many miles away), Dr. Sarfati offered a draw to his final opponent. Frank graciously accepted the offer.

In the aftertalk, Dr. Sarfati's wife, Sherry, said that, by tradition, he would sit down with his computer on Monday, and record from memory every move of all six games! - this from a man who never saw a chessboard or (anything else) during the entire 2-1/2 hour demonstration! Asked if he has a photographic memory, Dr. Sarfati said, No, but he does have a "graphic memory."  Asked what he sees inside his mind while he is playing chess, Dr. Sarfati replied that he sees a grid with points of light, and energy radiating outward from some points of light to other points. 

Wow!

August 4, 2007  Author, lecturer, debater, and Vice-President Emeritus of the Creation Research Institute, "Creation's Bulldog" Dr. Duane T. Gish gave a lecture on Creation versus Evolution to a packed audience. The title of Dr. Gish's lecture was, "Scientific Evidence for Creation."

Dr. Gish has participated in hundreds of Creation/Evolution debates in churches, colleges and universities across the country. The response of the evolutionary community to the hammerings they have received is to generally refuse any further invitations to debate. The excuse? Evolutionists don't want to "dignify" creation science as worthy of scientific debate.

July 21, 2007 - Dr. Steve Deckard, a professor at Liberty University in Virginia, spoke on the topic of man-made global warming. The title of his lecture was, "OVERHEATED - A Biblical Creationist Perspective on Global Warming." Dr. Deckard first examined the broader subject of environmentalism, quoting highly placed extremists who view Earth as a living organism, and Man as a deadly virus bent on destroying the planet. Their proposed solution: Quickly and significantly reduce the human population and technology. Next, Dr. Deckard confronted false and misleading statements from Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth," contrasting sensational claims with published, peer-reviewed scientific data. Dr. Deckard also challenged the oft-repeated myth that catastrophic global warming is a scientific fact, roundly attested by the scientific community. During a brief intermission, Garth Guessman, vice president of the Southbay Creation Science Association, described the ongoing researches of a team of cryptozoologists in search of legendary "ropen" - pterosaurs thought by conventional science to have become extinct tens of millions of years ago. Garth introduced team memeber Scott Norman, who reported his own personal sighting of an apparent pterosaur at about 2:00 A.M. July 19, 2007, from a distance of twenty feet. Scott described a flying organism with a wingspan of 8-10 feet, bat-like wings, and a crested head. Team members are still in the field, and for the present are not divulging the location of the current investigation.

July 7, 2007 - Roger Oakland spoke on, "Emerging Church Redefining the Creator."

Having read more than 60 books in recent months by promoters of the "Emerging Church," Roger Oakland thoroughly documented the cross-denominational stampede toward abandonment of biblical Christianity in favor of experience-based mysticism. Seeking to reinvent Christianity, the seeker-friendly Emerging Church embraces historic trappings of ancient paganism, setting aside the Creator God of the Bible in favor of a pantheistic (everything is God) or panentheistic (everything is part of God) universe. June 16, 2007  -  Doug Hamp gave a lecture on Jesus as Creator and on the language He spoke while among us. He took to task the prominent notion of scholars when faced with a clear statement of Scripture, whether it be regarding Creation out of nothing, or a simple declaration of what language was used when a word or phrase was spoken, that "We know better." Doug gave many examples where Scripture plainly states that a word or pronouncement was spoken in Hebrew, but scholars, including some Bible translators, have changed the word "Hebrew" into "Aramaic." He then demonstrated that where the Bible says, "Hebrew", it means "Hebrew". 

Doug Hamp, author of The First Six Days and Discovering the Language of Jesus, earned his MA in the Hebrew Bible and the Ancient Near East from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel.  During his three years in Israel, he studied both modern and biblical Hebrew, biblical Aramaic, Koine Greek and other ancient languages as well as ancient texts and the archeology of the Bible.  He is currently an assistant pastor at Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa, where he teaches at the School of Ministry and Graduate School.

June 2, 2007 -  The Creation Science Fellowship watched Lee Strobel's movie, The Case for a Creator.       

Pedro Buford (of Mustard Seed Faith fame) provided piano and vocal worship music before the movie.

Though written from an Old-Universe perspective, The Case for a Creator offers powerful evidence "pointing to the existence of a creator." Evidence cited included the finely tuned physical constants of the universe, and also an ever-increasing list of parameters whose measured values must be precisely what they are within very narrow limits, or life could not exist. 

Discussion following the film drew a distinction between the biblical worldview, in which the existence of the Creator is a foundational given - the source and bedrock of all of reality -  versus Naturalism, the materialistic viewpoint that nature is all there is. The discovery of finely tuned physical constants and parameters critical to the existence of life has been roundly acknowledged by scientists within the context of a naturalistic worldview. Approximately 157 critical value parameters have been identified, with 10 - 15 new ones being added to the list each year. 

A few examples are: the ratio of the electromagnetic force to the force of gravity must be accurate to within one part in 10⁴⁰ or there could be no chemistry, and life could not exist ; The expansion rate of the universe must be precisely what it is within one part in 10⁵⁵ ; The Mass of the Universe must be precise to one part in 10⁵⁹ ; the cosmological constant must be accurate to one part in 10¹²⁰ . To properly analyze the likelihood that all these critical parameters came about by chance would be to multiply all their tolerance ratios together to find the composite probability. Until we have a comprehensive list we cannot perform this calculation. However, we can illustrate an important point by referring to only one of these life-critical parameters - say for example the ratio of electromagnetic to gravitational forces, with a required precision of one part in 10⁴⁰ .

Within a naturalistic worldview, what is the probability that this life-critical  parameter should occur by chance in the ' Goldilocks zone' of one part in 10⁴⁰ ? Answer - one chance in ten-thousand-trillion-trillion-trillion.

Now, there are  really only two explanations for how the universe came into existence with such finely tuned parameters: chance, and design. So, referring again to just this single parameter as an example, critical to one part in 10⁴⁰ , what is the probability that the universe came into existence by design? Answer - ten-thousand-trillion-trillion-trillion to one! 

So comparing, in the biblical world view origin by design is a foundational certainty. And in the pretended neutrality of the naturalistic worldview, the probability of origin by design is so overwhelmingly enormous as to be indistinguishable from statistical certainty!

May 5, 2007 Linguistics professor Dr. Fred Field returned to discuss, "Bible Translation from a Linguist's Perspective". Dr. Field began with a quick review of the basic nature of language from its "zoom-in" and " zoom-out" perspectives, noting the match between the amazing complexity of  language, and the human faculty to learn and use language. He discussed language as a gift, the only view that accommodates its incredible complexity, versus a spectrum of embarrassingly simplistic evolutionary just-so stories that attempt to account for the origin of language.

Fred discussed the rigorous fidelity of Old Testament manuscripts over thousands of years, as verified by copies of Scripture among the Dead Sea Scrolls, and he discussed the occasional inclusion of marginal commentary into New Testament manuscripts during copying. He also discussed the question, "Would God say 'ain't'?" - dealing with the expectations of whichever culture into whose language the Bible is being translated.

Dr. Field also discussed the alleged capacity of apes to use language, concluding that such claims require a redefinition  of the word language. The documented accomplishments of apes shows that under the best of circumstances, individual apes can learn to recognize up to 1,000 words spoken by human trainers, and can intelligently select any of up to 250 different graphic symbols in order to express themselves to humans. Altogether missing are syntax and other hallmarks of language. 

Fred Field is Associate Professor of Linguistics at California State University at Northridge.  He holds a B.A. in Linguistics from UCI, and M.A. in Linguistics from Cal State Fullerton, another M.A. in Linguistics from USC, and a Ph.D. in Linguistics from USC. He is also an accomplished musician, and was a founding member of Love Song, an early Calvary Chapel Jesus People rock band that launched a whole new genre of Christian music in the early 1970's.

April 14, 2007. The title of Dr. Andrew Snelling's lecture was, "Radioactive Dating of Rocks: Challenging an Icon of Evolutionary Geology".

 Dr. Snelling began by pointing out three assumptions that underlie radiometric dating methods: 
1) Like stopwatches, radioactive clocks are cleared and restarted at the time rocks form so that from that moment forward daughter isotope atoms accumulate from the radioactive decay of parent isotopes present in the rock, 2) No external factors influence or contaminate the accumulation of daughter atoms from parent atoms, and 3) Radioactive decay rates have remained constant over billions of years. 

Dr. Snelling showed numerous examples of volcanic rocks from known historic eruptions that date by radioisotopes to hundreds of thousands, or millions, or even billions of years old - thus nullifying the first assumption. He cited examples of rocks collected at varying distances from magma intrusions, showing an apparent drift of ages with distance,  demonstrating that temperature effects inferred clock rates - thus nullifying the second assumption. And, Dr. Snelling gave many examples of widely discordant dates from the same rock units or, in some cases, from the same rock samples using different dating methods. In other examples, the same dating method gave significantly discordant dates for different minerals from the very same rock! Patterns emerge, demonstrating older dates from heavier isotope dating methods, and indicating not only that rates of radioactive decay have been different at times in the past, but also that rate changes have varied with atomic weight. Finally, Dr. Snelling discussed radio halos, suggesting that the presence of very short half-life polonium radiohalos in rocks indicates an episode of highly accelerated radioactive decay and abnormally high rates of heat loss.

Ariel A. Roth was born in Geneva, Switzerland, and grew up in Europe, the Caribbean, and North America. Holding a master's degree in biology and a Ph.D. degree in zoology from the University of Michigan, he has taken additional training in geology, mathematics, and radiation biology at various campuses of the University of California.

Roth has held a number of college and university appointments and is a member of several learned societies. After serving as chairman of the Biology Departments at Andrews University and Loma Linda University, he was director of the Geoscience Research Institute at Loma Linda, California. For 23 years he has been editor of the journal Origins.

Roth has pursued research in invertebrate zoology and on fossil and living coral reefs in both the Pacific and Caribbean. There he has investigated the effects of light and pigment on the rate of coral reef growth. His research in various aspects of biology has been financed by several United States government agencies, including the National Institutes of Health and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Roth has been active in the evolution-creation controversy in the United States, serving as a consultant or witness to the states of California, Oregon, and Arkansas. He has conducted numerous paleontological and geological field trips in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and North America in areas significant to the creation-evolution controversy. In addition, he has published more than a hundred articles in both scientific and popular journals, and has given many hundreds of lectures throughout the world.

  February 3, 2007 - Veteran Ark Researcher and 8-times Explorer of Mount Ararat, John McIntosh gave a PowerPoint presentation on the current status of the search(es) for Noah's Ark.

About our speaker - John McIntosh, president of  SEARCH Foundation, is a retired high school science teacher who has been actively searching for Noah's Ark since 1978, when he made his first of eight (and counting?) assaults on Mount Ararat, and his first of fifteen (and counting?) visits to Turkey, seeking permission to climb .  His 1978 expedition was a solo climb. Since then, John has climbed with a veritable Who's Who of other Ararat explorers, including the late Moon-walking astronaut Jim Irwin. John's most resent climb of Mount Ararat was interrupted by an E-ticket ride (read here slide) down a glacier, terminating with a broken ankle and a harrowing night alone on the ice. 

When he isn't planning or leading or recovering from an expedition,  John is maintaining Information Central, communicating with a bevy of Ark enthusiasts around the world by email. John has also been a contributing author and consultant to books and movies on the subject of the quest for Noah's Ark.

January 20, 2007 - Former Curator of the Creation Museum at the Institute for Creation Research, John Rajca, gave a lecture on Global Warming entitled, "Is the Sky Falling?" John systematically exploded alarmist claims by Al Gore and others. He also addressed the population explosion "crisis", concluding that people are not the planetary disease some annihilationists claim, but are rather life's greatest resource.

January 6, 2007 - Creation Science Fellowship watched the film, "Dinosaurs by Design", featuring Dr. David Menton, followed by the Moody Institute of Science classic, "God of Creation," with the late Dr. Irwin Moon.

December 16, 2006 - Brand Adams returned with a lecture on the Peruvian Ica stones. These are stones which have been etched with pictographs, many of which depict such seeming anachronisms as apparently pre-Inca Indians using telescopes, performing brain surgery, and riding and fighting with dinosaurs. The veracity of the brain surgery depictions is corroborated by the discovery pre-Inca skulls with large hand-cut holes, many of which reveal post surgical bone growth. The stones are named for the town of Ica, which contains the largest single collection. Most are reported to have been recovered from a large cache discovered in modern times at the site of a collapsed cave. Other stones of the same type are still being discovered as grave articles in the tombs of pre-Inca mummies.

November 18, 2006 - Rob Yardly interviewed Dr. Walt Brown by telephone while their conversation was broadcast to our audience. Rob projected PowerPoint images of Dr. Brown's book , In the Beginning: Compelling Evidence for Creation and the Flood while Dr. Brown gave a brief (2-1/2 hour) tour of the book, answering questions and elaborating on various subjects.

Walt Brown received a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where he was a National Science Foundation Fellow. He has taught college courses in physics, mathematics, and computer science. Brown is a retired full colonel (Air Force), West Point graduate, and former Army ranger and paratrooper. Assignments during his 21 years in the military included: Director of Benet Research, Development, and Engineering Laboratories in Albany, New York; tenured associate professor at the U.S. Air Force Academy; and Chief of Science and Technology Studies at the Air War College. For much of his life, Walt Brown was an evolutionist, but after many years of study, he became convinced of the scientific validity of creation and a global flood. Since retiring from the military in 1980, Dr. Brown has been the Director of the Center for Scientific Creation and has worked full time in research, writing, and speaking on origins.

November 4, 2006 - Chairman of the Biology Department at Christian Heritage College and Research Associate in Bioscience for ICR, Professor Kenneth B. Cummings spoke about life in the Galapagos Islands, focusing on "Darwin's Finches". 

Though often touted as prime examples of of new species arising by variation and natural selection, "Darwin's Finches" prove problematic to evolutionists. First, serving as ship's naturalist, Darwin did not identify finch species. He simply killed and collected specimens, noted the place and date of each kill, and sent off his collection to London for analysis by an ornithologist. It was the ornithologist in London, not Darwin, who by measuring beak sizes, divided the specimens into "species". Having never seen live specimens in their natural habitat, this "expert" had no idea which individuals might have bred together in the wild to produce viable offspring - the only true basis for distinguishing "species"- and so invented the various "species" on the basis of beak morphology.

The Grants, husband and wife team from Princeton University, have been studying Darwin's Finches on the Galapagos Islands since 1973. They have discovered that during periods of unusual wetness, such as followed the 1982 El Nino, when vegetation thrives, normal sexual selectivity vanishes, and finch varieties which do not normally interbreed in dry times do so readily in times of abundant food supply. Such examples of "de-speciation" have been labeled "reticular evolution" by the Grants.

Dr. Cummings earned a B.S. degree at Tufts University, and both an M.A. and a Ph.D. from Harvard. He has extensive experience in research, teaching and administration with the federal government, and in three universities.

October 21, 2006 - Author and lecturer, linguistics professor Fred W. Field, Ph.D., presented a lecture entitled, "Two Views of the Origins of Language". The two views are actually two categories, Natural versus Supernatural. The Supernatural view is that represented by the creation of Man with all his faculties by  the Self-attesting Creator of the Universe, the God of the Bible, followed by direct intervention in human affairs at the tower of Babel. The Natural category comprises a menagerie of ad hoc speculations and just-so stories.

Fred Field is also a musician, and was a founding member of the group Love Song, which inspired a whole new genre of praise and worship music. From his unique perspective, Fred explores connections between the human faculties for language and music.

October 7, 2006 - We showed two movies. First was the movie, The Privileged Planet by Illustra Media. Every student should own this DVD! "The Privileged Planet" challenges conventional wisdom that there is nothing special about the earth, and that it occupies no special place in the universe. To the contrary, Earth, its Sun, its orbit, its position in the galaxy, and many other factors appear to have been finely tuned to host intelligent, inquisitive life.  

There are rational limits to what measure of luck the universe can be expected to host. Had CHANCE (instead of God) been required to implement by mindless trial and error the dizzying array of conditions and precise factors necessary to for intelligent life, the dice would have long since lost their corners and worn away to dotless marbles. The probabilistic resources of the universe would have been exhausted in the first minutes of the gamble. 

Our second movie was Hubble Bubble, Big Bang Trouble by AIG, with Dr. John Harnett. This video lecture made and/or evoked the following points:

• A sphere having a radius of 4.3 light years (equal to our distance from the next nearest star) could contain all the hundreds of billions of stars in each of the hundreds of billions of galaxies, with none of them touching, so empty is the vastness of space!

• All astronomers really know about stars and galaxies is: 

  • their positions in the sky,

  • their apparent brightness, 

  • their spectra, and 

  • the red-shifts of their spectra

  • changes in observable characteristics over observable time.

• Red-shift can be due to any or all of the following causes (and perhaps others as well):

  • mass (gravitational red-shift)

  • velocity of recession (Doppler red-shift),

  • the expansion of optical-inertial space relative to a Euclidean reference frame, (cosmic red-shift).

• Estimates of the size and age of the universe are based on the interpretation that the extreme red-shifts of quasars are due to:

  • their recession from us at very high velocities owing to the theoretic relationship of red-shift, speed, and distance according to Hubble's Law,

  • the expansion of intervening space over the enormous distances of billions of light-years.

• Astronomer Halton Arp's discovery of many examples of pairs of highly red-shifted quasars associated with low red-shift galaxies severely challenges the connection between quasar red-shifts and their assumed distances.  Without a red-shift-distance connection, Big Bang theory falls on its big face, as do the presumed size and age of the universe!

July 15, 2006 - Independent researcher Bill Weston presented a fascinating lecture entitled, "Sir Isaac Newton: Bible-believing,  Global-Flood-Young-Earth Creationist." Though widely regarded as the most important scientist who ever lived due to his contributions to physics and mathematics, including gravitation, mechanics, optics, and calculus, and his invention of the reflecting telescope, Sir Isaac Newton is almost unknown for his greatest passion in life - the Bible, its chronology and its prophesies. Using the Bible as his primary datum, Newton searched out the standard works upon which secular history is based, weighted them according to the authority of their sources, and pieced together a world timeline published a year after his death under the title, "The Chronology of Ancient Kingdoms Amended". Among information uncovered by Newton are the facts that the ancient records of the Egyptians were carried off to Persia by Cambius, and that both Egyptian and Persian records were destroyed by Alexander the Great. Secular history of those nations prior to the conquest of Alexander the Great are largely reconstructions fraught with speculation.

As an aside, Bill Weston revealed a post-Newtonian debacle in ancient history. Archaeological excavations of Nineveh in the 1850's uncovered a thousands of clay tablets believed to be Chaldean. Later, an influential scholar named Jules Oppert (1825-1905) marveled that the stratigraphy of Nineveh was so short, and arbitrarily assigned the 'Chaldean' tablets to a hypothetical pre-Assyrian civilization 2,000 years older! For his previously unknown hypothetical civiliztion, Oppert coined the name "Sumer". Following Oppert's lead, archaeologists dismissed Chaldea from ancient history, ascribed Chaldean artifacts to the Sumerians, and re-dated them accordingly. Adding insult to injury, modern archaeology regards the Bible's many references to the Chaldeans as mythological!

June 3, 2006 - All-day seminar by director of Common Sense Science, Dr. Glen Collins, on new models for understanding the structure of matter and  physics of the natural world.

This all-day seminar took place in the LOGOS Building sanctuary at 3000 W. MacArthur Blvd, Santa Ana, CA 92704. Beginning at 8:30 A.M. and ending at 9:30 P.M., Dr. Collins delivered five lectures drawing distinctions between naturalistic and biblical presuppositions and their influence on resulting models of physics. From the outset, Dr. Collins  welcomed interaction from the audience, including points of disagreement. As Dr. Collins frequently reminded the audience, his purpose was to share the discoveries and hypotheses of Common Sense Science, and to stimulated thinking and discussion based on biblical principles. Lecture titles were as follow: Think Right!; Modern Science Principles vs. Biblical Principles; The Fingerprints of God Within His Creation; Wholesale  Replacement; and, Elementary Particle Models and Fine Structures. These were followed by a recap of the day's lectures, and Questions and Answers.  

Dr. Glen C. Collins earned his doctorate in Artificial Intelligence and Software Engineering from Vanderbilt University after earning degrees from Georgia Institute of Technology in Electrical Engineering. He served as Professor and lecturer at the US Naval Academy following teaching duties at Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech. He has extensive experience in management and development of large computer networks, and he presents Common Sense Science at international conferences and seminars. May 20, 2006 - Independent researcher Brand Adams gave an illustrated discussion of "cavemen", pointing out that dwelling in caves is still practiced, including the use of modern "cave hotels". Brand showed the distribution of fossil caveman discoveries , and their approximate correspondence with the margins of ancient ice sheets. He also gave a partial list of the  Bible's many references to cave dwellers. Brand  proposed that the Flood of Noah,  approximately 4,500 years ago, was followed by the Ice Age, and that as people began to repopulate the habitable parts of the planet, caves often served their need for shelter.

Brand had just returned from a research expedition to Peru to investigate ancient ICA burial stones that depict humans interacting with dinosaurs.

May 13, 2006 [a special meeting on the second Saturday of the month], Dr. Andrew Snelling was visiting from Australia, and we  modified our normal schedule of meetings in order to accommodate his availability. The title of Dr. Snelling's lecture was, " Radiohalos – Evidence of Accelerated Decay and Catastrophic Geological Processes".

Dr. Snelling first described uranium radiohalos surrounding tiny zircon crystals as microscopic records of hundreds of millions of years worth of radioactive decay (at today's decay rates) preserved in biotite flakes found inside rocks. He described the 8 steps of uranium decay to stable lead, and showed how each alpha particle emitter in the decay chain produces its own characteristic ring in the radiohalo. Next, he projected slides showing polonium radiohalos next to uranaium halos, suggesting polonium or its precursor, water-soluble radon, had been carried out of the uranium-laden zircon crystal by hydrothermal fluids and accumulated at new centers (possibly at sulfur inclusions in the biotite) to form its own characteristic halos. The fact that the three isotopes of polonium have such short half-lives (Po-210 = 138 days, Po-214 = 0.000164 seconds, Po-218 = 3.1 minutes) suggests the polonium halos formed within a few weeks at most. But considering that significant quantities of polonium are required to produce their halos suggests the decay steps in the uranium decay process that produced the polonium were vastly accelerated compared to today's rates. Furthermore, since the granites containing the biotite flakes in which the halos are found are known to crystallize from magma at 650-730 degrees C, and since radiohalos are annealed and disappear at 150 degrees C, it is apparent that the granites cooled within days, rather than over millions of years. 
    Dr. Snelling continued recounting new line upon new line of evidence culminating in the following conclusions:
Radiohalos provide evidence of :
* 100's of millions of years worth (at today's decay rates) of accelerated nuclear decay
* The rapid cooling of granite within 6-10 days
* The rapid formation and cooling of metamorphic rocks in only days or weeks
* The rapid formation of hydrothermal ore deposits in only days or weeks
* The timescales for these processes are thus consistent with the year-long Flood even 4,500 years ago
* Radiometric methods for dating rocks are totally unreliable.

March 18, 2006. Roger Oakland spoke on the subject, "Chance and Time, or Intelligent Design?" Roger cited
numerous examples of biological complexity which fairly scream, "Intelligent Design!" and manifestly refuse explanations of chance and time.

Roger also shared his vision for mission work in Myanmar (formerly Burma) where investment in a spiritual harvest promises unparalleled dividends.

March 4, 2006 - Dr. Tim Standish shared part of his current leading edge research. His lecture was entitled, "Extending Irreducible Complexity to Ecology: Is it possible? What would it mean?" By way of example, Tim showed that several groups of organisms are responsible for maintaining various aspects of the Nitrogen Cycle. The loss of any one group would terminate the Nitrogen Cycle, and life on Earth would cease to exist!

February 18, 2006 - Dr. Chuck Missler spoke on biotechnology (with asides on geopolitical developments).

Tongue in cheek, Chuck began by holding up a long necklace of black and white beads. He explained that he had knocked over a jar of beads in his workshop, and instead of scooping them back into the jar, as he picked them up, he randomly strung the beads onto a fishing line. Stringing the last bead, he then tied off the ends, completing a necklace. To his amazement he discovered that, counting white beads as dashes and black beads as dots, his necklace recorded the first verses of Genesis Chapter 1.  As the audience began to chuckle, Chuck first validated their incredulity by showing the mathematical improbability (exceeding Borel's Possibility Limit). Then he chided the audience for knowing intuitively the impossibility of his hypothetical story while nevertheless sending their children to government schools where they are subjected to explanations of their own origins that are dozens of orders of magnitude less probable than his own necklace story!

Chuck described the highly automated 2,000 acre FORD River Rouge automobile plant where raw materials enter by rail, and finished automobiles roll off the assembly lines and are shipped to dealers across the country. He then contrasted this enormous human achievement with the unparalleled complexity and adaptability of a living cell - "a constellation of miracles within a miniature city". Referencing Borel's Law - the proposition that ascribing any specified event to chance which has a probability smaller than 10^-50 is absurd - chuck described molecular machinery found inside the cell. He compared the processing of DNA to the task of spooling two linked fishing lines 125 miles long and packaging them inside a basketball, unzipping them, copying them, repackaging them without any tangles, and doing it all "at the three times the speed of an airplane propeller." 

For the benefit of any who might question the identity of the Intelligent Designer behind life and the universe, Chuck discussed two dimensionless constants found everywhere in physics and mathematics: pi and e. He then led us to the two most foundational verses of the Bible regarding Creation, Genesis 1:1 and John 1:1. Chuck showed how pi, accurate to four decimal places, is encoded in the text of Genesis 1:1. Then, he showed how, by the same system, the constant e, accurate to four decimal places, is encoded in John 1:1.

A Bible teacher for 20 years at Calvary Chapel, Costa Mesa, Chuck Missler was an Honor Graduate from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland. He served in the United States Air Force , rising to Branch Chief of the Department of Guided Missiles. Subsequently, Chuck earned Masters Degrees in Engineering and Business at UCLA. He has over 30 years experience as a top level executive in high technology ventures. He has served on the Boards of Directors of more than a dozen public corporations, and as Chairman and CEO of 6 of them. Chuck established the first international computer network in 1966, while working for the Ford Motor Company. He worked on strategic corporate development projects for Rockwell International, Ford Motor Company, TRW, Western Digital Corporation, as well as U.S. and foreign governments. He was a senior participant in highly classified projects serving the intelligence community and the Department of Defense, (SAMCOM-USSR, DSL, JCS, USACADA, DOJ). Chuck and Nancy Missler founded the Koinonia House ministry in 1973, and in the early 90's left the world of business to devote themselves to full time ministry. 

In 1999, Chuck earned his Ph.D. from Louisiana Baptist University, and in conjunction with LBU is now able to offer a Degree programs through Koinonia Institute.

February 4, 2006. Kevin Anderson of the Creation Research Society will give a presentation entitled, Human, not Animal! 

Dr. Kevin Anderson discussed the evolutionary bias that equates humans with animals, and  reviewed some of the supposed evolutionary ancestors of Man. He reviewed the finding of the Australopithecus "Lucy", and the laughable October 11, 1994 episode of NOVA which depicted paleontologist Dr. Lovejoy grinding a cast of Lucy's pelvis in order to "reconstruct" its "proper" orientation. This "reconstruction" gave Lucy an upright poster, whereas her untouched bones, which fitted "too perfectly," revealed an apelike posture, incapable of producing a human gait. ( Dr. Anderson also brought castings of Lucy's bones with him to demonstrate the "too perfect" natural fit.)

Dr. Anderson revealed some of the background behind the popular claim that humans and chimpanzees share 95%-98% DNA homology. He said the study underlying the claim looked for common sequences on different chromosomes. Only alignable sequences were counted!

Evolutionary estimates of the age of Mitochondrial Eve used a preconceived date for the separation of chimps and humans and a measured value for the differences between chimp and human mitochondrial DNA to establish a mutation rate, and an age 150,000 years. No human mtDNA mutation rates were measured.

Subsequent studies in human mtDNA mutation rates found mutations occur 20X faster, yielding a date for Mitochondrial Eve closer to 7,500 years.

A study of human Y-chromosome mutation rate found NO mutations! However, to fit evolutionary bias, the report estimated Mitochondrial Adam must have lived between 27,000 years ago ( with a confidence interval of 0 to 80,000 years) and 270,000 years ago (with a confidence interval of 0-800,000 years). Dr. Anderson pointed out that the 27,000 - 270,000 year values, and the confidence intervals attending them are outrageously made up numbers based on zero data.

Dr. Kevin Anderson observed that most scientists are evolutionists by default, not by conviction.

Kevin Anderson obtained his Ph.D. from Kansas State University in microbiology. He was then a National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellow at the University of Illinois, and later a professor of microbiology at Mississippi State University. As a professor, he taught graduate level molecular genetics classes and served as the major professor for several doctoral and masters students. He later served as a research microbiologist for the United States Department of Agriculture before accepting his current position as Director of the Van Andel Creation Research Center (Chino Valley, AZ). Dr. Anderson has published over 20 papers in technical microbiology journals and has given presentations at numerous national and international scientific meetings. He is also currently the Editor-in-chief of the Creation Research Society Quarterly.

January 7, 2006 - Ken Ham, President of Answers in Genesis, explained the importance of Genesis 1 through 11 to the church as it seeks to engage the culture of our day. 

Ken Ham began with an assessment of the current "Culture War" in the United States, pointing to indicators that biblical Christian influence is rapidly losing ground in our society. He then pointed out that the United States is following in the path of Great Britain where there are now more mosques than churches, and where church attendance has declined from 50% to 7% in recent decades.

Ken traced the decay of Christian influence to a reinterpretation of rock layers in the late 18th century when scientist disputed evidence for the Genesis Flood, and introduced millions of years into Earth chronology. While very able scientist of the day disputed the reinterpretation, representatives of the church embraced it - and its hidden message: The Bible can't be trusted in matters of science and history. 

Ken Ham showed that the Authority of the Bible as the Word of God is the foundation of Christianity. Without its Authority as the  Word of God, we have no reason for believing the Bible's teachings on moral or spiritual matters.

Contrary to popular secular belief, there is abundant evidence that the Earth is young, that Noah's Flood did occur, and that the Bible is historically accurate. Those who claim science finds no evidence of a global Flood as described in Genesis, need only look beneath their feet. Belief in the Genesis Flood predicts "billions of dead things buried in rock layers all over the world". And what do we find? Billions of dead things buried in rock layers all over the world!

December 3, 2005 - Dr. John Sanford, Inventor of the Gene Gun, spoke on "Genetic Entropy."

Dr. Sanford cited well known and widely accepted discoveries in genetics, and connected the dots to paint an alarming picture:

• Mutation rates are very high. Every human baby is born with at least 100-300 new point mutations (nucleotide substitutions). 

• Most mutations and deleterious.

• Most mutations are almost neutral in selection value.

• Most mutations are recessive. 

• Deleterious mutations accumulate many, many times faster than they can be eliminated from the genome.

• Fitness decreases as mutational load increases.

• Extinction is inevitable.

• The Primary Axiom of NeoDarwinian Theory, that all biological specified complexity is accounted for by mutations filtered by natural selection, is falsified. Random mutations plus natural selection cannot maintain the human genome, much less improve it!

November 19, 2005 - John Baumgardner, Ph.D, presented a lecture on run-away plate tectonics, a mechanism for the Genesis Flood.  

Dr. Baumgardner discussed the relevance of the Genesis Flood to the sharp contrast between the biblical Christian worldview and the worldview of secular science. The standard geological interpretation of Earth history constitutes a major assault on Christian theology. Today, only a few Christians can be found who will defend the Bible in public.

Dr. Baumgardner traced the history of today's standard interpretation of geology to the efforts of three principle men: James Hutton (1727-1797); Charles Lyell (1797-1875); and Charles Darwin (1809-1882).

Dr. Baumgardner then showed that evidence of a global flood is not obscure - it is readily observable! Vast sheets of high energy deposits covering many thousands of square miles indicate velocity, direction, and depth of the water in which they were deposited. Contrary to Lyell's mantra, "The present is the key to the past," no such processes are visible in the world today. The absence of erosional channels between layered deposits disputes the contention that they were laid down over millions or billions of years.

Dr. Baumgardner then demonstrated how the current theory of Plate Tectonics, coupled with published data on the behavior of mantle minerals under temperature and pressure, give rise to a straight-forward explanation for the Genesis Flood.

Solid mantle minerals, under constant (high) temperature, have been shown to respond to small changes in stress by losing material strength by a factor of more than a billion!

A concentration of cold, dense mantle rock at the margins of Earth's former super-continent would have given rise to run-away plate tectonics. The breaking loose of cold dense rock, and its gravitational plunge into the lighter, hotter mantle beneath it, would have converted gravitational potential energy into heat. Resulting local temperature increase would have further weakened the local mantle, giving way to strong positive feedback, sudden instability, and an episode of run-away plate tectonics. As ocean floor spreading began picking up speed from normal fingernail growth rate velocities to miles per hour, rising magma would lift the ocean floor. At the same time, down-welling of ocean floor material at continental margins would depress continental masses, drowning them under the elevated oceans.

Modeling runaway plate tectonics, John Baumgardner made another unexpected discovery. Shallow water equations on a sphere reveal that Correolis currents would rapidly develop, setting up velocities of 80 meters per second (200 miles per hour) around the sunken continents!

Meanwhile, secular geophysicists are wrestling with new discoveries of their own. Studies reveal great lumps of mantle material lying on top of Earth's core having seismic properties that suggest they are 5000 degrees colder than the surrounding core and mantle! Dr. Baumgardner believes these may be the remains of mantle material that sank during the global episode of runaway tectonics.

Also, radar maps of Venus now suggest the entire planet has been resurfaced in the geologically recent past. Earth may not be the only planet subjected to runaway plate tectonics.

John Baumgardner received  a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering at Texas Tech University in 1968, an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University in 1970, an M.S. degree in Geophysics and Space Physics at UCLA in 1981, and a Ph.D. in Geophysics and Space Physics at UCLA in 1983. October 15, 2005 - Ariel A. Roth, PhD, addressed the question, "Was There A Global Flood?"

Dr. Roth related that there are some 270 folklore traditions scattered across the globe that tell of a worldwide Flood. While critics argue that these only reflect numerous local flood catastrophes, Dr. Roth argued otherwise. He referred to Steith Thompson's 6-volume Motif-Index of Folk Literature, published by Indiana University Press, cataloging some 30,000 categories of folktales. An examination of causes of past world calamities recorded in Folk Literature revealed: 

• 122 folktales of world calamities cause by a flood

• 19 caused by fire

• 6 caused by continuous winter

• 2 caused by large stones

• 1 caused by ogres

• 1 caused by earthworm

• etc.

The disproportionate number of folktales referring to the world's past destruction by a flood suggests a common history etched in mankind's collective memory. [Interestingly, the 19 folktales of world fire might reflect volcanic activity associated with a global flood. And the 6 folktales of continuous winter could relate to an ice age following the global flood. An ice age on land requires warm oceans ].

Dr. Roth went on to give seven lines of evidence for a global flood, with special emphasis on Paraconformities. These are areas where layers are "missing" between vertically stacked fossils beds, representing millions of years according to conventional evolutionary geology, though the contact between layers displays a consistent absence of erosion.

Ariel A. Roth was born in Geneva, Switzerland, and grew up in Europe, the Caribbean, and North America. Holding a master's degree in biology and a Ph.D. degree in zoology from the University of Michigan, he has taken additional training in geology, mathematics, and radiation biology at various campuses of the University of California.
Roth has held a number of college and university appointments and is a member of several learned societies. After serving as chairman of the Biology Departments at Andrews University and Loma Linda University, he was director of the Geoscience Research Institute at Loma Linda, California. For 23 years he has been editor of the journal Origins.
Roth has pursued research in invertebrate zoology and on fossil and living coral reefs in both the Pacific and Caribbean. There he has investigated the effects of light and pigment on the rate of coral reef growth. His research in various aspects of biology has been financed by several United States government agencies, including the National Institutes of Health and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Roth has been active in the evolution-creation controversy in the United States, serving as a consultant or witness to the states of California, Oregon, and Arkansas. He has conducted numerous paleontological and geological field trips in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and North America in areas significant to the creation-evolution controversy. In addition, he has published more than a hundred articles in both scientific and popular journals, and has given many hundreds of lectures throughout the world.

October 1, 2005 - Joseph Francis, Ph.D. associate professor of biology at The Master's College, gave a presentation entitled, "The Biomatrix". Dr. Francis characterizes himself as a Creation modeler, searching for scriptural and biological clues about Creation before the Fall. For example, how has "natural evil" - intelligently designed malevolent organisms - derived from pre-Fall counterparts, having once been declared "good" by their Creator. Dr. Francis' presentation highlighted many surprises about bacteria and viruses, and the supporting roles they often play for the benefit of other organisms. Of the 5,000 known species of bacteria, (of an estimated ten million yet to be cataloged), only about 400 cause disease. Humans possess about 100 trillion bacteria - we have perhaps ten times as many bacterial cells as we have cells of our own. The human genome contains about 30,000 genes. The bacteria we carry contribute two-million genes to our symbiotic relationship with them. 

Some, perhaps many, bacterial genes influence the nutrition,  immunities, reproduction, and behavior of their hosts. Every pacterium has a virus partner. Human chromosome 22 contains genes for more than 2,000 HERVs. 

Huge levels of HERVs show up at the interface between a baby's placenta and its mother's uterus. Their function is to suppress the immune system locally. For this reason, the mother's body does not reject her child.

Joseph Francis received a B.S. in microbiology from Michigan State, and his Ph.D. in biology from Wayne State University in Detroit. He did post-doctoral work in cellular immunology at the University of Michigan. He taught for 10 years at Cedarville University, and has now taught at The Master's College for three years.

September 17, 2005 - Mark Armitage, doctoral candidate at Liberty University, presented more rock solid evidence that Earth is young! He spoke on "Helium Retention in Deep Core Zircons," revealing data that flies in the face of Old Earth predictions. Mark's presentation was based on his recently published paper of the same name in American Laboratory (July 2004). 
This seminar reviewed previous work on radiohalos, their occurrence in granites, and the results of the ICR/CRS RATE project where Mr. Armitage has been documenting radiohalos in over 105 granites from around the world. The talk concluded with startling evidence of massive amounts of helium being retained by zircons extracted from deep granite cores (over 3000 ft. deep). Combined with measured diffusion rates of helium from zircons at various temperature, this data presented powerful evidence that the Earth is young. The presentation featured photomicrographs taken in Mr. Armitage's electron microscopy laboratory at the Institute for Creation Research. 

Mark Armitage studied botany plant pathology at the University of Florida. He earned his Master's degree in biology with special emphasis in parasitology at the ICR Graduate School. Mr. Armitage has published over 35 papers in peer-reviewed journals such as Microscopy Today, Microscopy and Microanalysis, Parasitology Research and the Southern California Academy of Sciences Bulletin. He is a lifetime member of the Creation Research Society, a member of the Microscopy Society of America and a member of the American Society of Parasitologists.

September 3, 2005 - John Baumgardner, Ph.D, presented a lecture entitled, "Thousands, not Billions: Radioisotope Evidence that the Earth is Young!" 
    Dr. Baumgardner's lecture began with a review of the influence of James Hutton's Theory of the Earth and Charles Lyell's The Principles of Geology: Being an Attempt to Explain the Former Changes or the Earth's Surface by Reference to Causes Now in Operation in establishing Uniformitarianism as scientific dogma over the past 200 years, discrediting the Bible as an authoritative source in matters of science and history.
    Dr. Baumgardner then related how the discover of radioactivity at the beginning of the 20th century led quickly to the dating of rocks by measurements of radioisotopes, and how all radiometric dating methods depend on the assumption that decay rates have been uniform throughout the past.
    Dr. Baumgardner then shared three lines of evidence among the latest findings of the RATE (Radioisotopes and the Age of The Earth) team, indicating that radioactive decay rates have not been uniform in the past, and that the Earth is young:

1. Helium retention in zircon crystals (found inside flakes of biotite mica in deep core granites) presents a challenge to the assumption that radioactive decay rates have always been the same. Uranium-to-lead ratios suggest much radioactive history in any given crystal, but levels of helium retention compared to known temperature-related diffusion rates (helium is derived from alpha particle emissions during during radioactive decay) suggest recent accelerated decay.

2. The abundance of polonium halos in granite, considered in combination with the short half-lives of polonium isotopes, and the narrow conditions in which polonium halos can form, suggest one or more periods of accelerated radioactive decay.   

3. The consistently measurable presence of C14 in fossil carbon and in diamonds challenges the presumed millions of years ages of the samples, and of the rocks that entomb them. 
            A starting mass of C14 the size of the Earth, after a million years at constant decay, would contain no C14 atoms.
           A starting mass of C14 the size of the universe, after 1.5 million years of constant decay would contain no C14 atoms. 
   Measurements of C14 in samples otherwise believed to many millions of years old challenges conventional assumptions.

August 6, 2005 - Dan Criswell, Ph.D, presented a lecture entitled "Genetics and Genesis" which considered, among other topics, whether Adam and Eve had the genetic potential to become ancestors to all of humans. The conclusion was that designed into their genomes was enormous potential variability do to recombination of allelic genes and other means of genetic shuffling.

An interesting aside was the fact that cheetahs have almost no genetic diversity - individual cheetahs are so nearly identical  genetically, their immune systems do not reject skin grafts from one cheetah to another.

Dan Criswell received a Bachelor's degree in Zoology from Weber State Universtiy in 1982, a Masters of Science degree in Biology from the Institute for Creation Research in 1994, followed by a PhD in Molecular Biology at the University of Montana.

July 16, 2005 - Garth Guessman, vice-president of the South Bay Creation Science Association in Torrance, CA, will report on his and David Woetzel's autumn expedition to Papua New Guinea and the island of Umboi in search of the elusive "Ropen". Sightings by missionaries and remote village natives suggest two species of nocturnal pterosaurs inhabit the island, one having a wingspan of 3-4 feet, the other a wingspan of about 20 feet. These animals are reportedly bioluminescent.

Garth Eric Guessman holds an A.S. degree in  Fire Technology from Los Angeles Harbor College. Currently a fireman for the Compton city fire department, Garth is also vice president of the South Bay Creation Science Association where he has been a member since 1985, and a board member since 1997. For two years prior to his expedition, Garth studied and prepared.

On 24/3/5 around 4.30am when I walked outside the house where we sleep with 4 other preachers who came with me. Standing together we saw the ropen fly from the mountains down to the sea . On Saturday we saw 2 of them flying together and on Sunday morning we again saw 3 of them flying together. I tried to get a photo on my camcorder but it was flying very high, fast and , up and down towards the sea. 
I interviewed the village people and two of the men told me that they saw it and it looks like a big aeroplane. They told me that you can see it fly every night around 9pm out from the mountain to the sea and morning time around 5 to 5.30am it flies back to the mountain. When we got close to that mountain around 9pm the 4 preachers and I saw it fly out. I gave them 1 camera and on the 29/03/05 when Jim Blum pick me up I told him to fly me over to that mountain. I saw the mountain, it is very very high but I'll go back there with my boys to see if we can video it.

July 2, 2005 - Paul Giem, medical doctor, medical researcher, and associate professor of emergency medicine, returned to expose deep seated flaws in the theory and practice of the potassium-argon (K⁴⁰/Ar⁴⁰) dating method. Dr. Giem listed seven specific assumptions underlying the Potassium/Argon dating method. Of the seven, several are clearly questionable, and one is demonstrably false: contrary to conventional wisdom, Argon 40 does not totally escape when volcanoes erupt and hardening minerals begin to crystallize.

June 18, 2005 - Author and lecturer Mace Baker, Ph.D, revealed that though secular scientists refuse to accept the global catastrophe of the Genesis Flood, dinosaur deposits are almost universally acknowledged as the work of violent floods. Dr. Baker described a period of geologic upheaval, unbridled volcanism, tsunamis, and rising oceans in which dinosaurs struggled for high ground. He showed numerous photographs of dinosaur - and sometimes human - footprints originally made in rapidly hardening mud and ash, and described a Wyoming discovery in which dinosaur foot and ankle bones were found locked in deep footprints in stone.

April 16, 2005 - Kevin Anderson, Ph.D, spoke on "The Conflict between Evolution and the Science of Genetics." Despite popular claims, the study of genetics reveals a world totally inconsistent with the claims of evolution. Many popular "evidences," such as antibiotic resistance of bacteria, mitochondrial "Eve" (the alleged mother of all modern humans), and the human genome sequence are actually very consistent with a young-earth creation concept.

Kevin sited several examples in which antibiotic resistance has developed from previously non-resistant strains of bacteria. In each case he showed how information and variability were lost from the genome, not gained.

Dr. Anderson showed how a well publicized study of mitochondrial DNA in humans touted that humans all share a common female ancestor, "Eve", calculated to have arisen in Africa 150,000 years ago. He also showed how the calculation incorporated an ad hoc fudge factor in order to conform a mitochondrial DNA mutation rate to a preconceived age for humanity. Without the fudge factor, mitochondrial Eve would dated to 7, 500 years ago by this study. If this is outrageous, it pales compared to a similar search for Y-chromosome Adam. A study based on a  measured mutation rate of zero for a particular region of the Y-chromosome concluded that the first male common ancestor of all humans appeared 270, 000 years ago!  April 2, 2005 - Our own international missionary Roger Oakland returned from Ecuador with a message entitled, "Proclaiming the Gospel Through Creation Evangelism." Roger provided a strong scriptural basis for using Creation as a starting point in sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Roger shared how he himself, once an atheist and promoter of evolution at a Canadian university, became first a creationist, then a theist, and finally a believer in Jesus Christ.

Roger told how comforting a grieving family by sharing his own discoveries led to his being called upon to share evidences of Creation with other families, and then with churches and communities, then to the writing of a book, and to his being called upon to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the entire former Soviet Union the morning after its collapse. Roger related how ongoing invitations from around the world have led him to share evidences for Creation and other topics with audiences in some 40 countries, including Russia (on many visits), China, South Africa, Cuba, and most recently, Ecuador.

March 5, 2005 - Bill Hoesch gave a presentation entitled, "A Tale of Two Fossil Deposits" - one deposit being Dinosaur National Monument, and the other a 6 foot thick layer of rock, underlying thousands of square miles, and containing billions of fossil nautiloids generally 3-4 feet in length. Both deposits provide dramatic evidence of a catastrophic flood, consistent with the Genesis record.

February 5, 2005 - Jet Propulsion Laboratories' David Coppedge, Systems and Network Administration Team Lead for the CASSINI-HUYGENS mission to Saturn, and President of the San Fernando Valley Bible Science Association, shared the latest discoveries and spectacular images from Saturn and her moons. David takes special interest in discovieries which challenge conventional assumptions that the Solar System is billions of years old.

January 15, 2005 - High school speech and debate contender Robert Quijano Jr. shared a speech he had delivered in a regional competition, which dared to challenge evolutionary orthodoxy --  and the reaction of the judges. Robert also shared a revised version of the speech (yet to be given in competition), and will requested comments and discussion from the audience. He received enthusiastic audience support with constructive criticism, tips, and suggestions coming from a broad spectrum of listeners, including teachers and an attorney.

Fourteen year old Robert Luis Quijano Jr. attends Loyola High School in Los Angeles. He lives in Torrance, California, where he attends Calvary Chapel South Bay. Robert has consistently tested in the nation's top 1% in all subjects, having become an avid reader of the Encyclopedia Britannica at age 5. By age 8 he had read through the Bible. Today, Robert enjoys an average reading speed of well over 600 words per minute. His favorite subjects are math, science and art.

December 4, 2004 - Medical Doctor, Medical Researcher, and Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Paul Giem spoke on radiocarbon dating. 

Having described the theory of radiocarbon dating, Dr.Giem showed systematic errors between published C14 dates and calibration dates such as those found in tree rings. He also showed findings of radiocarbon in geologically dated samples which should no longer contain measurable traces of C14 (if their supposed geologic ages were correct).

November 6, 2004 - Geoscience Research Institute molecular geneticist Dr. Tim Standish spoke on "Fossil Birds: How recent discoveries help resolve questions about Archaeopteryx."  Dr. Standish reviewed the history of Archaeopteryx fossils, once hailed as the evolutionary link between reptiles and birds. He then showed photographs and a comprehensive chart of recent fossil bird discoveries, hailed as true birds with teeth and claws, but found in lower strata than Archaeopteryx.

October 2, 2004 - Retired rocket scientist Bob Cielnicky spoke on stem cell research, human cloning, and California's ballot initiative Proposition 71.

While working for MacDonnell Douglas Space Division (now Boeing) in Huntington Beach,  California, it was Bob Cielnicky's task to answer Requests For Proposal from the government. A typical request would outline a concept for a new project or space mission, specifying certain criteria that must be met.  Bob Cielnicky's job was to prepare the requested proposal. This meant selecting appropriate technologies, allocating facilities, capitol, and human resources, scheduling project milestones and  delivery dates, and determining the cost. 

Occasionally, it also fell to Bob Cielnicky to prepare and submit unsolicited project or space mission proposals to the government. These, obviously, were much harder to sell, and required ample proof of concept that the proposed project or mission was completely justified.

Looking at the Cloning and Embryonic Stem Cell Research Bond Act (California ballot initiative Proposition 71), Bob Cielnicky shakes his head in amazement. Twenty years of embyonic stem cell research has produced nothing but tumors and biological ruin. Proponents of Prop 71 promise new cures for diseases and even the generation of replacement organs. But, as Bob Cielnicky says, proponents of this $6 Billion boondoggle "haven't even shown proof of concept!"

Bob shows that Proposition 71:

• Incurs a $6 Billion public debt for not even one guaranteed cure

• Eliminates government controls and scrutiny on how funds are used

• Diverts funding away from adult and cord blood stem cells, - the only stem cells in which successes have occurred

• Creates a constitutional right to clone and kill human embryos

• Forces taxpayers to fund this cloning and killing of human beings.

• Renews funding without another public vote!

August 7, 2004 - Author, lecturer, and international missionary Roger Oakland returned with a presentation on Two Views of Human Origins - Evolution versus Creation. Roger contrasted the wildly imaginative claims made for various fossil discoveries against the actual data. Such claims have often ended in embarrassment for the scientific community.

July 3, 2004 - Ruth Ebling, associate professor and anatomy instructor at Biola University, brought actual donor specimens as well as charts and photomicrographs in order to demonstrate the complexity of Design in the structures and functions of the human brain.

[By the way, did you know that your brain weighs only about 2% of your body weight, but consumes some 25% of your energy? For a person burning 2,000 Calories a day, this translates to an average power consumption of about 24.2 Watts in brain activity.]

[Another tidbit: The human brain puts out about .0154 Watts per gram in waste heat energy. The Sun's energy output is 2.0 x 10^-7 Watts per gram. So, one unit mass of human brain puts out 77, 210 times more energy than one unit mass of the Sun. No wonder you're so bright!]

May 1, 2004 - Dr. Elaine Kennedy, geologist, returned to show a film by the Geoscience Research Institute called "Evidences II - The Tale of a Trilobite," and to answer questions from the audience. 

The film combines stunning photography with animated graphics to summarize field observations from geology and paleontology in support of the Creation-Flood model, showing both strengths and weaknesses of the model in contrast to evolutionary thinking. 

• Evidence 1: Complexity - The very first fossils of multi-cellular organisms show them to complex and well developed.

• Evidence 2: Abrupt Appearance - Fossils of highly complex organisms appear abruptly and without ancestors.

• Evidence 3: Systematic Gaps - The greater the difference between two species, the less likely it is that intermediates are found.

• Problems: All theories of Earth history are incomplete.

• Conclusion: What we see is influenced by our point of view.

March 6, 2004 - International missionary Roger Oakland returned from an evangelistic outreach to Cuba. Roger shared a message with us entitled, "From Slime to Divine," a  review of the systematic lack of evidence that accompanies  evolutionary storytelling.

A former atheist and promoter of evolution, Roger became convinced that the evidence for Creation is overwhelming and that the God of the Bible is the only logical contender for the job of Creator. Since then, Roger has traveled extensively to places all over the world, sharing the evidence of Creation and the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and warning people against experience-based religious fallacies.

February 7, 2004 - Dr.X, who for career reasons has asked that we no longer use his name on this website, spoke on the complexity of human languages, and the effortless faculty of human children to learn languages. Much of his talk was based on a paper Dr. X  recently delivered at a linguistics conference. 

Dr.X also shared his personal testimony and the spiritual journey that transformed him from a pot-smoking brain-damaged hippie to a university professor. 

X is a man of many talents. He began taking violin lessons at the age of four and a half, and by seven was playing in community orchestras next to members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. By age sixteen he had spent nine years in orchestra, playing opera, ballet, and classic concerts. Then he joined a rock-and-roll band, and subsequently opened for numerous famous groups and worked with many notable music celebrities.

X was a pioneer in contemporary gospel music, writing, co-writing and recording numerous songs and albums. Dr.X spent more than 30 years in the music business, performing on five continents, touring Europe more than a dozen time, working in radio and television, recording records and scoring movies and videos.

An interest in language sent X back to school where he earned a B.A. in linguistics from UC Irvine, followed by an M.A. in linguistics from Cal State Fullerton, a second M.A. in linguistics from USC, and finally a PhD in linguistics, also from USC.

Dr.X has one book in progress, one in press (as a contributing author), three forthcoming scientific papers, a published book, four published articles, and three published book reviews. Dr.X has also presented 32 papers at scientific conferences around the world.

In his spare time (ha!) Dr.X has taught a wide variety of undergrad and graduate courses at six different universities. He has also refereed papers, reviewed textbooks, consulted for scientific journals, chaired annual meetings of multiple linguistics societies, and much more.

January 3, - Roger Oakland spoke on "Creation - the Foundation of Christianity".

A former evolutionist - turned Creationist - turned Christian - turned international missionary (in that order), Roger Oakland travels nine months of the year speaking to audiences all over the world. The LORD has used Roger mightily in opening the doors of Russia and other countries to the Gospel of Jesus Christ through speaking engagements, books and videos. He speaks on evidences of Creation, dangers of New Age infiltration into the Church, and current events in prophesy.

Roger Oakland was in Moscow the day Mikhail Gorbachev announced the collapse of the Soviet Union. Being the author of what was then the only Russian language book on Creation in the Soviet Union, Roger was asked to speak the next day on the television program "Good Morning Russia." The entire country was watching that morning as a leading general tried to calm fears that with the collapse of the central government, nuclear missiles scattered throughout the republics might fall into irresponsible hands. December 6, - Roger DeHart, former biology teacher in the State of Washington, shared his experience at the hands of an ACLU witch hunt which ultimately cost him his job. His "crime"? He dared to teach his students to think critically about the claims of evolutionary dogma.

November 1, - David Coppedge returned with Part 2 of his Tour of the Solar System For Clues To Its Age. The clues are abundant. From Mercury's magnetic field which should not exist in such a slowly rotating planet with a presumably almost frozen core, to the outer planets with their fragile rings and actively out-gassing and resurfacing moons, the solar system exhibits phenomena that fly in the face of conventional wisdom's 4.6 billion year assigned age.

Dave is Network and System Engineer for Jet Propulsion Laboratory's Cassini mission, NASA's most ambitious interplanetary mission ever. He is also President of the Bible Science Association of San Fernando Valley, editor and "chief bwana" of a magnificent website at www.creationsafaris.com. A subweb of this site is Creation-Evolution Headlines, a daily online source for news on origins, the Bible, and science including excerpts and reviews of articles from a variety of scientific journals.

Besides all these activities, David also leads outdoor nature trips called "Creation Safaris" up mountains and down into caves, across rivers, meadows, and dunes, into volcanoes, under waterfalls and through lava tubes, ever highlighting the handiwork of the Creator.

Oct.4, - Dr. Bernard Brandstater, professor of anesthesiology at Loma Linda University School of Medicine, reported on findings of the late George Dodwell, Government Astronomer of South Australia. By cataloging the positions of stars as recorded by astronomers down through the ages, Dodwell traced Earth's decaying wobble backward in time to a catastrophic event. In the year 2,345 B.C., Earth's wobble went asymptotic. This date seems generally consistent with the period of Noah's Flood.

As a teenage medical student living in South Australia, Bernard Brandstater heard of Dodwell's work, and pedaled his bicycle to the observatory to meet the famed astronomer.

When George Dodwell died in 1980, his family passed his research notes on to our own good friend, Barry Setterfield. (Barry spoke to the Creation Science Fellowship of Calvary Chapel on February 1, 2003). Barry prepared the materials for publication. At that point it was determined that for best impact, Dodwell's research should be published in the United States. And so the torch was passed to Dodwell's lifelong admirer, Dr. Bernard Brandstater. Bernard has continued the effort, gathering additional photos and documentation, culminating in a soon to be published book. (Check back often. We'll let you know when the book is published).

September 6, David F. Coppedge, System and Network Engineer for Jet Propulsion Laboratory's most ambitious interplanetary project ever, the Cassini mission, presented Part 1 of his lecture on the age of the Solar System. He will return on November 1 to present Part 2. David shows abundant evidence that the Solar System is not billions of years old as is commonly claimed, but is in fact quite young.

On August 2, biologist Frank Sherwin returned from ICR  to share various examples of intelligent design clearly evident in bats. In particular, the sonar system whereby insect-eating bats locate, chase down and intercept their prey is phenomenally complex.

 [Remember, the hallmark of intelligent design is Complex Specified Information (CSI). CSI indicates a highly improbable set of conditions that conforms to an independently given pattern - such as functionality.]

Frank showed photographs of fossilized bats and quoted evolutionary paleontologists who candidly admit that from their earliest appearance in the fossil record, bats have always been bats.

Why is it that delicate leaves are preserved in the La Brea tar pits, but animal hair and soft tissue are missing? Why is it the fossil bones are mixed, disarticulated, incomplete skeletons from many different animals? On July 5, Bill Weston returned with an update on his research at the La Brea Tar Pits. This lecture centered on the insects found among the bones of the fossil pits, and the mysterious fact that insects are always found completely disarticulated! Bill shared the results of an experiment he performed that explains how the insects became disassembled. His latest research further supports the hypothesis that the animals and insects of the pits perished in a flood, and during the runoff phase of the flood, some of their remains accumulated in oil seepage pits where they are still preserved.

On June 7, John McIntosh, President of SEARCH Foundation, presented a slide lecture on the search for Noah's Ark, showing more than 300 slides from numerous expeditions over the past fifty years. John has been to Mount Ararat 14 times, and has been allowed by Turkish officials to climb the mountain 7 times. Present in the audience were several other veteran explorer's of Mount Ararat, including Elfred Lee, Chuck Aaron, Dave Larson and Kevin Klutz. Dave Larson brought a 4-foot scale model of Noah's Ark for display.

On May 4, Fred Wilson, from the Institute for Creation Research, gave a lecture on Fibonacci's numbers, the Golden Ratio, the Golden Rectangle, and the Golden Spiral. Examples of nature's conformance to these complex abstract entities are too frequent to be accounted for by chance. Yet they are non-universal, disproving necessity. This leaves Intelligent Design as the best explanation for the conformance of nature to these complex mathematical properties.

On April 5 our scheduled speaker, John McIntosh, was unable to be with us due to his mother's sudden illness. (She has subsequently passed away). In his absence, we watched a video presentation about the search for Noah's Ark on Mount Ararat in eastern Turkey.

On March 1, 2003, Mark Armitage described a variety of Creation research projects with which he has been involved. These included:

• An experimental endeavor to fossilize two small fish by burying them in mud collected from fossil-bearing strata. X-rays, after two  years, revealed that bone calcium migrated away from the carcasses.
• Sections of bone from a "Moab Man" specimen revealed incomplete penetration of copper patina, and the presence of an adult blow fly'si exoskeleton inside a bone.  These suggest death before interment.
• Studies of radio halos lend strong support to the rapid formation of Stone Mountain, in the state of Georgia.
• Mark's microscopic studies of the Bombardier Beetle reveal abundant evidence of design.
• Multiple-host parasites display evidence of design.

On February 1, 2003, Barry Setterfield disclosed a trend in scientific measurements over the past 300 years, revealing that several inter-related physical "constants" of nature, including the speed of light, c, have been changing. He then explained the theoretical relationship between the zero-point energy of space and the c-related physical constants. Based on that relationship, Barry showed that the history of light speed versus time is identical with redshift versus distance when viewing the spectra of distant galaxies. Finally, Barry used the lightspeed-history/redshift-distance curve to calibrate atomic dates against orbital time. The conclusion: The apparent billions of years old atomic age of the universe correlates nicely with the 6,000 year account of biblical chronology, measured in Earth orbits around the Sun.

On January 4, 2003, geolologist Dr. Elaine Kennedy of the GeoResearch Institute spoke on the Tapeat Sandstones of the Grand Canyon. Dr. Kennedy showed evidence that these deposits were laid down suddenly in deep water, probably by an underwater landslide of enormous proportions - (potentially, the collapse of a continental shelf!).

On December 7, 2002, amateur paleontologist Bill Weston presented evidence that the La Brea tar pit fossils in Los Angeles were  deposited by flood waters, not by entrapment as is commonly represented. 

Bill has a BA degree in English from California State University in Long Beach. He is a high school substitute teacher, and lives with his wife and six children in Garden Grove, California. Bill and his wife home school their children.

Bill Weston has been studying the La Brea tar pits and their fossils for the past three years. Scientists at the pit museum have permitted Bill to study the fossils first hand. The Creation Research Society Quarterly has published the first of Bill's papers, entitled La Brea Tar Pits: An Introductory History (1769 - 1969), and will publish his second this December. His third paper is currently undergoing peer review. The secular magazine Science Frontiers also recently published Bill's La Brea tar pit research.

On November 4, 2002, molecular geneticist Dr. Tim Standish gave a lecture entitled, "Overwhelming Evidence: Information and Machines Sufficient to Infer Intelligent Design."
